A huge problem when it comes to a car or truck is the brakes failing. Brake systems are designed with a bit of redundancy to help them not fail completely at once, but when they need service it’s important to get them repaired as soon as possible so you don’t have the problem of driving without brakes which is not good for you or anyone around you. Many people won’t get service on their brakes because they think it’s really expensive. However, it’s not as much as many people think which is why I decided to write this article about how much do brakes cost for your car or truck to give you a better idea.
There are many different factors that actually go into the cost of your brake service. From the age of your vehicle and the make to special features that your vehicle might include such as anti-lock brakes. For most cars and trucks that are on the road today the cost is generally about the same with some exceptions for foreign cars and unique models of vehicles.
How Bad Are Your Brakes?
Getting your brakes serviced when they first show signs can actually save money on the brake repair. Braking systems have several components which break down over time and includes the brake pads, caliper, and rotor disc. Simple brake repair applications will only replace the brake pads but when you allow the brakes to continue even after the pads are failing you can damage other components such as rotors and calipers. Here are some common figures for brake replacement
Standard brake service with brake pad replacement on most cars or light trucks: $89 to $200
If rotors are bad and need replacing, add $200 to that total
If calipers are bad and need replacing, add $150 to that total
As you can see catching the brakes at the right time can save you lots of money on replacing the caliper or rotors. Sometimes these items can be rebuilt which can save you money over the entire cost of the brake service. Keep in mind these are just ballpark estimates for how much do brakes cost for your vehicle. Your location will also impact the cost of your brake service.
